Worked example: counting by hand
From October 11, 2026 to Sunday, March 28, 2027, add the days of each month:
- October 11 to November 1: 21 days
- November 1 to December 1: 30 days
- December 1 to January 1: 31 days
- January 1 to February 1: 31 days
- February 1 to March 1: 28 days
- March 1 to March 28: 27 days
- Total: 168 days, the same as the counter shows on that day.
How is the date of Easter calculated?
Easter is not a fixed date or a simple weekday rule. Western churches set it as the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21, using a table of moon dates instead of the real sky, and that makes the calculation work with whole numbers only. We use the integer algorithm published by the Royal Observatory of Belgium, which gives Sunday April 5, 2026 for 2026 and Sunday March 28, 2027 for 2027. Both agree with the Good Friday and Easter Monday dates on the GOV.UK bank holiday list.
What are the earliest and latest dates for Easter?
Easter always falls between March 22 and April 25 in the Gregorian calendar. We tested the algorithm over every year from 1583 to 2500: it never left that range and always returned a Sunday. In the table below the dates run from March 28 (2027 and 2032) to April 21 (2030).
How many days until Easter from today?
The counter reads your clock and switches to next year’s Easter once this year’s has passed. As an example, from October 11, 2026 the next Easter is Sunday, March 28, 2027, 168 days away, or 24 weeks and 0 days.
What are Good Friday and Easter Monday?
Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday and Easter Monday is the day after. GOV.UK lists them as bank holidays in England and Wales: April 3, 2026 and April 6, 2026 in 2026, March 26, 2027 and March 29, 2027 in 2027. Easter Sunday itself is not on the GOV.UK list.

Is Easter the same day for all Christians?
Not always. This page gives the Western (Gregorian) date. Churches that use other calendars can celebrate on a different day, and we did not open a source on those dates.
Is Easter Sunday a US federal holiday?
No. It is not on the OPM schedule for 2026 or 2027.
What date is Easter in 2028?
Sunday, April 16, 2028.
Why not use the real full moon?
Churches fixed the rule with a table of average moon dates so the date could be known years ahead. The real full moon can differ by a day or more, so an almanac of the sky may disagree with the church date.
