How does the countdown work?
It compares your device clock with midnight at the start of the date you choose, in your own time zone, and updates once a second while the tab is visible. The big number is the calendar days between today and that date, the same count the days-between-dates calculator gives. The four boxes show the exact time left to midnight.
What time does the countdown end?
At 00:00 on the morning of the chosen date, local time, so on the day itself the page says the date is today. People in other time zones who open the same link count to their own midnight, which is usually what a birthday or holiday means.
How do I share a countdown?
The address of this page changes as you pick a date and type a title. Press "Copy link" and send it: whoever opens it sees the same date and title and the clock for their own device. The link carries nothing else, and a title longer than 60 characters is cut.
What happens after the date passes?
The page switches to counting up and tells you how many days ago the date was, instead of showing negative numbers or a frozen zero.
Questions about countdown
Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?
The page recalculates from your clock every time you open it, so it is always right when you come back. Nothing is saved on your device or on a server.
Can I count down to a time of day?
Not yet: the countdown ends at the start of the chosen day. For an hour-level deadline, subtract the clock time yourself from the boxes.
How many days until Christmas, Easter or New Year?
Each has its own page with the live count, the rule behind the date and the dates for the next years. Start from the days-until list.
Why do the days not match the days box?
The big number counts calendar days to the date. The first box counts whole 24-hour days left until midnight, so it is usually one lower until that midnight has passed.
Is the title I type private?
It stays on your device unless you copy the link, because the title is part of the address. Do not put names or other personal details in it.

This page uses plain calendar arithmetic, so there is no outside source to cite. The method is described above, and the tests behind it were checked against independent calculations.
